MOFA attestation in Malaysia, handled for you
Before a foreign embassy will accept a Malaysian document, it usually needs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) stamp from Wisma Putra. We prepare your document, take it to Wisma Putra and follow it through to the embassy, so you don’t queue in Putrajaya or fly back to Malaysia.
What is MOFA attestation?
MOFA attestation is when Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, known as Wisma Putra or KLN (Kementerian Luar Negeri), confirms that the signature and seal on a Malaysian document are genuine. Foreign embassies in Kuala Lumpur rely on this stamp, so in most cases they will only add their own legalisation after MOFA has attested the document. You may see it called MOFA attestation, Wisma Putra authentication or KLN attestation. They all mean the same step.
Documents we take to Wisma Putra
Most Malaysian documents that will be used abroad pass through MOFA. Not sure about yours? Send a photo on WhatsApp and we’ll confirm before you pay.
Education documents
Degrees, diplomas, transcripts and SPM/STPM certificates for jobs, licensing and study overseas.
Personal documents
Marriage and birth certificates, certificates of good conduct (COGC), and passport or MyKad copies.
Commercial and corporate documents
SSM certificates, board resolutions and certificates of origin for overseas business.
Legal documents
Powers of attorney, statutory declarations and other notarised documents.
How MOFA attestation works, step by step
The exact route depends on the document and the country where you will use it, but most documents follow this order.
Free check
We check the document, the destination country and its purpose, then confirm the route and fee.
Verification
Education documents are verified by the Ministry of Education or Higher Education. Most other documents are certified by a notary public.
MOFA / Wisma Putra
We submit the document at Wisma Putra in Putrajaya for MOFA attestation and collect it.
Embassy
If your destination requires it, its embassy or high commission in KL adds its stamp.
Back to you
We courier the attested document to you, in Malaysia or overseas.
The process can vary depending on the embassy. Some embassies, such as the German Embassy, only stamp the original document, so any translation is done after legalisation. For the Brazil Embassy, birth and marriage certificates cannot go to a notary public and must first be certified true copies from the issuing authority, such as JPN, before MOFA. Some countries also add a stamp from their own foreign ministry after arrival. We confirm the exact order for your destination before we start.
Is MOFA attestation enough on its own?
Usually not. MOFA confirms the document is genuine in Malaysia, and the embassy confirms it for its own country. Most destinations need both stamps, in that order. And because Malaysia is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention (as of 2026), there is no apostille shortcut.
Malaysia confirms the document
Malaysia’s foreign ministry authenticates the signature and seal on your Malaysian document.
Your destination accepts it
The embassy of the country where you will use the document adds its legalisation stamp. Read more in our guide to document legalisation in Malaysia.
Living abroad? We go to Wisma Putra for you
Wisma Putra is in Putrajaya, which is a long trip if you are in Kuala Lumpur and impossible if you already work overseas. With a signed authorisation letter, our team submits and collects your document on your behalf. Whether we need the original or a scan depends on the embassy: if the embassy does not stamp the original, a scanned copy is usually enough.
What we need from you
A clear scan is usually enough. We only need the original if your embassy stamps it.
Of the document holder, or a company director for company documents.
The country, and what the document is for: work visa, study, family visa, business and so on.
We prepare it for you, so we can submit and collect at Wisma Putra on your behalf.
How long MOFA attestation takes and what it costs
Start at least 4 weeks before your visa or appointment date. Embassy queues and public holidays can add days. Read more on how long document attestation takes in Malaysia.
| Service | Typical timeline | Fee from |
|---|---|---|
| MOFA attestation only | 3 working days | RM 230 |
| MOFA + UAE embassy | 15 working days | RM 1,000 |
| MOFA + Saudi embassy | 10 working days | RM 560 |

Frequently asked questions
Are MOFA, Wisma Putra and KLN the same thing?
Yes. MOFA is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia, KLN is its Malay abbreviation (Kementerian Luar Negeri), and Wisma Putra is the name of its building in Putrajaya. “MOFA attestation”, “KLN attestation” and “Wisma Putra authentication” all describe the same stamp.
Can I do MOFA attestation myself?
Yes, you can apply directly at Wisma Putra. People use our service when they live overseas, can’t take time off to travel to Putrajaya, or want the full chain, including the embassy, handled in the right order without a rejected trip.
Is MOFA attestation enough, or do I also need the embassy?
Most countries need both: first MOFA, then the embassy of the country where you will use the document. We tell you exactly which stamps your destination requires before we start.
Does Malaysia issue apostilles instead?
No. As of 2026, Malaysia is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so Malaysian documents cannot be apostilled. They go through MOFA attestation and embassy legalisation instead.
Do you need my original document?
It depends on the embassy. If the embassy does not stamp the original document, a clear scanned copy is usually enough. Some embassies, such as the German Embassy, only stamp originals, and then we need the original.
Does my document need to be certified before MOFA?
It depends on the document. Education documents are verified by the Ministry of Education or Higher Education, while most personal, corporate, legal and employment documents are certified by a notary public first. Bank statements are first certified by the bank. Some embassies have their own rules, which we check before we start.
